Harpers Ferry National Historical Park
Harpers Ferry, West Virginia
In the fall of 2022, as a National Park writer-in-residence, I spent five weeks in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, living in a house built in 1859 and a stone’s throw from where the abolitionist John Brown staged his infamous raid on the federal armory. I’m now working on a book-length collection of hybrid works focused on Appalachia in the context of the residency’s theme, “site of conscience.”
