The Witness Project began in 2013 with funding from a State Arts Board grant. The Project’s goal is to create opportunities for traditionally silenced voices to be heard and thereby serve as catalysts for cross-cultural understanding. The main program consists of free monthly generative workshops of three hours’ duration. Teaching artists introduce basic elements of narrative, poetic forms, or literary devices, and use short exercises to help participants begin the process of writing their own works. Participants have the opportunity to share what they’re working on. Workshops are designed for, and appeal to, creative writers of all experience levels, from absolute beginners to advanced writers.
